The FCDA has among others the statutory responsibility for Planning and Development of Engineering Infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory in accordance with the Abuja Master Plan. Planning:- This involves the production and implementation of a comprehensive Urban and Regional plan for the Federal Capital Territory. Engineering Infrastructure:- These includes Transportation, Foul and Storm Water Drainages, Solid Waste, Water Supply, Electrical Power Supply, Telecommunication, District Infrastructure, Airport Development, and Satellite Towns Infrastructure. Other functions of FCDA includes the Provision of Public Buildings and the regulation of Mass Housing Development. Physical construction of the City commenced in 1979.
